Field classes for students of the first year of graduate study of civil engineering in the courses Rock Mechanics and Hydrogeology were held in the area of the former open-pit mine Vihovići in Mostar on Tuesday, 18 May 2021.
The visit and inspection of the deep excavation with the lake of the open-pit mine Vihovići was used for:
- geological and engineering geological characteristics of the Mostar area,
- lithological and physical-mechanical characteristics, primarily of marl, which dominates in the terrain structure,
- rock mass classification,
- hydrogeological characteristics of the terrain with emphasis on the hydrogeological relations of the Neogene basin and the carbonate hinterland and the relation with the Neretva River,
- history of coal exploitation and
- rehabilitation of the open-pit mine Vihovići.
