A scientific hour on the topic URBAN HERITAGE PROTECTION AND DEVELOPMENT was held in the conference hall of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Planning, University of Mostar, on Friday, 17 October 2025. The lecture was delivered by Nataša Živaljević Luxor, Ph.D. The lecture covered modern approaches to the protection and revitalization of urban heritage, illustrated through recent projects and plans from Niš and its surroundings.

Niš, the birthplace of one of the most significant Roman emperors—Constantine the Great—was a prosperous, developed, and prominent city as early as the 5th century AD. The rich architectural heritage from the Roman and all subsequent periods had, and continues to have, a decisive influence on the development of the modern city.

Particular emphasis was placed on a complex constructed in the late 19th century, which over time fell into neglect but whose urban significance has recently been rediscovered. After the restoration, this area will once again become one of the life centers of Niš, the new center of the city municipality of Palilula.

Nataša Živaljević Luxor, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the University of Donja Gorica in Podgorica, Montenegro.
