A scientific hour on the topic FRP materials and novel measuring techniques in bridge engineering was held in the conference hall of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Geodesy, University of Mostar, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026. The lecture was given by Dr. Eng. Bartosz Piątek, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Roads and Bridges, Rzeszow University of Technology.
A scientific hour on the topic was held in the conference hall of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Geodesy, University of Mostar, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.
The lecture provided an overview of the experience of the Department of Roads and Bridges at the Rzeszów University of Technology in the research on utilization of composite materials for strengthening, reinforcing, and constructing new structural elements for bridge engineering, as well as the use of a new measurement technique, distributed fiber optic sensing, in the monitoring and diagnostics of bridge structures.
Dr. Eng. Bartosz Piątek is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Roads and Bridges, Rzeszow University of Technology. His research interests focus on the application of composite materials in bridge engineering, including bridge strengthening with CFRP systems, FRP-reinforced concrete members, and innovative composite bridge components. He also specializes in the diagnostics, testing, and monitoring of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, particularly with the use of distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS). He is the author or co-author of over 50 scientific publications and has participated in around 30 national and international conferences. He combines academic research with engineering practice, including expert assessments, strengthening designs, bridge testing, and numerical analyses. He is a member of IABSE, IABMAS, IIFC, and the Polish Society of Bridge Engineers.
